Below are the first show ribbons I have earned on my owned, and the great guys and gals that realy
won them(the cavies). They are from a show in Cashiers on August 12, 2005. Ok..I know you want me to tell you the truth about
the shows, you know the stressful part where you are second judging this hobby that a little different from your neighbor
who took up scrapbooking, well..here it is!! Here are Anna's 7 "simple" steps to enjoying a cavy show!!
Ok, here we go-
TASK 1: Figuring out that the cavies breed, class, and, variety, ear
tag number, and gender,I know right.. if you were like me I was like my cavy has a breed a variety, and a CLASS!!! So
here is the easiest way to do it I went to my computer and e-mailed my show secertary, trust me..DON'T BE AFRAID TO ASK!!!
Most show secertaries are nice and VERY willing to help you with any question you can think of!!
TASK 2: Next, after you figured up breed variety, class,
and gender, you are probably wondering ear tag?? Yes cavies DO have to be ear tagged and if you don't have the supplies to
do so you can order them from pointer hill pet products!! Another route to take is when you send in your entries to your secertary,
just add a note that says..I need ear tags. You will need to arrive earlier to have ear tags applied!!!
TASK 3: Now you need to find the propper cages, I purchase
all of my mechandise from Pointer hill (http://www.pointerhill.com/miva/merchant.mv) they have very nice carrying cases for your cavies! You also might want to buy some supplies from cage tags, they have
special tags that can be clipped to ANY cage (http://www.cagetags.com/) I know at the start it can be a "little" costly.
TASK 4: Now all you have to do is wake up WAY BEFORE the
crack of dawn to run around like a crazy person because you are soooo stressed out!!!! Then you have to load everybody up
do a roll call to make sure you grabbed everyone and packed up extra cages, food(for humans and cavies),water, extra hay, bedding,veggies,exc......I
hope you will write up a roll call, yes, I know it sounds stupid but on my first show I forgot a "couple" of "kids". Even
after you have went, and competed in cavy shows roll call is vital make sure you have EVERYONE!!!!
TASK 5: After possibly hours of driving in a "squeaky" car
you finally make it to the show ( It might take longer than you think to travel to a show because on my first show I was sooo
nervous we stopped at a restroom every 30 minutes!!!) Now, so you are at the show you must go in and pay your entry fees and check
in!
TASK 6:Now so the show is starting, well be sure you
get as close as you can to the juding tables so you can hear what breed is being called!!
TASK 7: HAVE FUN, REMEMBER WHY YOU GO THROUGH ALL THAT
STRESS NOW?? CAVY SHOWS ARE ONE OF THE FUNNIEST EVENTS OF YOUR LIFE!! SHARE AND GAIN INFO. AND REPRESENT YOUR
CAVIARY WELL!!! SO YOU CAN POST YOUR RIBBIONS ON YOUR WEB PAGE!! (For more info see the showing your cavy page!!)
